Bantwal– The much-anticipated elevated road at Mani was officially opened to traffic on Thursday, marking a milestone in the B C Road–Addahole four-lane highway project. This development is expected to significantly reduce congestion and ease travel for motorists long troubled by bottlenecks on the service roads.

The newly opened flyover, eagerly awaited by residents and daily commuters, now allows vehicles to bypass the narrow, unfinished service lanes in the area. This breakthrough comes after Dakshina Kannada MP K Brijesh Chowta intervened and coordinated with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and contractors to fast-track the decision.

Following the MP’s direction, the NHAI granted clearance to open the elevated stretches at both Mani and Uppinangady. “This move will not only streamline traffic but also help speed up the remaining construction,” said an NHAI official.

Flyovers at Panemangalore and Melkar had opened earlier, but the delay at Mani had drawn public frustration, especially as commuters struggled with ongoing concrete work on the service roads.

Now, vehicles heading to Uppinangady can entirely avoid the service lanes, which are reserved for Puttur-bound traffic, easing pressure. Meanwhile, construction on the Kalladka-side service road continues, but the reduced traffic load may enable faster progress.

To further improve flow, one-way traffic will be introduced on the Kalladka flyover from June 2, as directed by the MP.

In Uppinangady, while permanent barriers are yet to be set, plastic drums currently ensure safe navigation on the flyover.
