Ujire: The Department of Journalism at SDM College, Ujire, will organise a special felicitation programme titled ‘Bhaskara Parva – A Tribute to the Media Teacher’ on Saturday, January 31, to mark the retirement of Dr. Bhaskara Hegde, Head of the Department of Journalism, after 33 years of dedicated academic service.

The event will be held at 10.00 am at the Indraprastha Auditorium on the SDM College campus and is being jointly organised by the department’s faculty members, students, and alumni as a gesture of gratitude and respect for Dr. Hegde’s long-standing contribution to journalism education.

Academic journey and contribution

Dr. Bhaskara Hegde has been associated with SDM College, Ujire, for over three decades, during which he played a pivotal role in shaping generations of journalism students. Known for his commitment to ethical journalism, academic rigour, and mentorship, he has guided students who today serve across print, electronic, and digital media platforms.

Programme highlights

The felicitation ceremony will be inaugurated by Dr. Satish Chandra S., Secretary, SDM Education Society, who will also release a festschrift (Abhinandana Grantha) dedicated to Dr. Hegde’s life and work.

A documentary film chronicling Dr. Bhaskara Hegde’s academic journey and contributions will be released by Mrs. Shraddha Amit, Executive Director, Kshemavana, Bengaluru.

The programme will be presided over by Prof. Vishwanatha P., Principal, SDM College, Ujire.

‘Bhaskara Parva’ aims to celebrate Dr. Hegde’s legacy as a teacher, mentor, and guide who has consistently inspired students to uphold values of truth, responsibility, and social commitment in journalism.
