Mangaluru: In a record-breaking drug bust, Karnataka police have arrested two Nigerian women at Bengaluru airport, seizing 37 kg of MDMA worth ₹75 crore. Officials confirm this to be the largest narcotics seizure in the state’s history.
The accused, Bamba Fanta (31) and Abigail Adonis (30), were apprehended upon landing from Delhi, with the contraband concealed in their trolley bags, stated Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal.
During the arrest, officials also confiscated four mobile phones, passports, and ₹18,000 in cash.
The investigation revealed that the duo, based in Delhi, had been smuggling drugs across India via air routes. Over the past year, they had traveled 37 times to Mumbai and 22 times to Bengaluru, establishing a well-coordinated supply chain.
According to police, Fanta entered India on a business visa in 2020, while Adonis had been residing in the country since 2016. They were reportedly involved in the illegal drug trade for the past 1-2 years.
The bust was part of a larger probe that began six months ago when Haider Ali was arrested in Mangaluru with 15 grams of MDMA. Further investigations led to the capture of a Nigerian national, Peter, in Bengaluru, who was found carrying 6 kg of MDMA.
Authorities are expanding their investigation to dismantle the entire smuggling network.
