Dakshina Kannada – MP Brijesh Chowta criticized the Congress-led state government for allegedly using the police department to impose restrictions on Hindu religious celebrations.

He expressed outrage over a case filed against organizers of the Sri Krishna Janmashtami program for using loudspeakers, calling it an insult to the traditions of Tulunadu, which include rituals like Kola, Nema, Yakshagana, and Brahmakalasha.

Chowta questioned who authorized the police to enforce such rules, stating that during the BJP government, while certain conditions existed for sound usage, religious festivities were never disrupted. He accused the current government of attempting to curb Hindu sentiments and warned of serious public dissatisfaction.

He emphasized that restrictions on loudspeakers could negatively affect upcoming festivals such as Chauthi, Navratri, and others, impacting cultural practitioners and the sound industry.

Chowta urged immediate intervention from the government and called on Home Minister Parameshwar, along with local legislators, to respect religious sentiments and allow unhindered celebrations. He cautioned that the government must take responsibility for any unrest caused by these restrictions.
