Sullia: A disturbing incident occurred at the Sullia bus stand on September 23, where a youth, Abdul Niyaz, was violently assaulted by a group over allegations of misbehavior with a female college student during a bus journey. The incident has raised significant concerns about safety and accountability in public transport.
According to reports, the female student boarded the Bengaluru-Subrahmanya-Sullia bus near Bisile Ghat and sat beside Niyaz. Allegations surfaced that he misbehaved with her, prompting the student to inform the bus conductor and her classmates. After Niyaz exited the bus at Subrahmanya, the girl, accompanied by her friends, decided to confront him.
The group located Niyaz at Paichar and transported him back to the Sullia bus stand, where they launched a brutal attack against him. Fortunately, the police arrived on the scene promptly and rescued Niyaz, who was subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment before being released.
Authorities are now investigating the incident, examining both the alleged misconduct on the bus and the violent response that followed. This incident highlights the need for better measures to ensure safety and address grievances effectively in public transport settings.
