Mangaluru police have registered a case against a social media page for allegedly posting content that demeaned on-duty police officers and the judiciary.
The issue came to light during routine digital surveillance by a designated officer at Barke police station on Saturday. While reviewing online content, the officer stumbled upon an Instagram page named ‘team_target___’, which was linked to another account called ‘immu_bhai.#900..’.
The latter account had posted a video featuring Imran alias Surmo Imran, who is an accused in a 2018 case registered at the same police station. The footage reportedly captures moments before and after Imran surrendered to a Mangaluru court.
What raised alarm was a clip showing Imran smoking a cigarette inside court premises, even as he was being taken into custody by Head Constable Ravikumar, following court orders. The act—interpreted as an open display of defiance—was seen as an attempt to project a rowdy image and create public intimidation.
To intensify the drama, the video was edited with a background score from a Hindi film and then uploaded to Instagram, further amplifying the perceived disrespect towards the judicial and police systems.
Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against those responsible for the video under relevant sections, citing the portrayal as derogatory and offensive to public servants and institutions.
