Mangaluru – Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan has issued a directive to submit a detailed report on converting the Clock Tower to State Bank stretch back into a two-way traffic route. The issue was raised during the District Road Safety Committee meeting held at Praja Soudha.
The road, which once functioned as a two-way, was changed to one-way, sparking public inconvenience and traffic bottlenecks. The DC instructed Smart City and Municipal Corporation officials to consult the Police Commissioner and provide a report within a week, outlining necessary plans and budget requirements.
DCP Siddharth Goyal pointed out the urgency of reviewing the route due to its proximity to emergency services like the police station and fire brigade, which currently face delays due to detours. He also mentioned that the road has been unofficially converted into a bus and vehicle parking zone.
Smart City officials clarified that the road had been developed as a one-way system and handed over to the Corporation. A technical plan from NITK regarding the State Bank Hamilton Circle is now ready for implementation, as per DC’s instruction.
Additionally, updates included installing permanent barricades at Hampankatte Signal, relocating bus stops at key junctions, and taking strict measures against footpath encroachments.
An underpass near Jokatte Cross is in the tendering stage, while truck parking issues along Panambur–Baikampady Road are to be resolved with NMPA cooperation.
Reports on school transport overload, tinted vehicle regulation, and traffic light maintenance were also discussed.
