Mangaluru: A Lok Adalat held at the Dakshina Kannada District Court on Saturday ended on a heartening note when a couple on the verge of divorce decided to reconcile and give their marriage a second chance.
Mediation leads to reconciliation
The couple, Harish and Shashikala, had earlier filed for divorce citing marital differences. Through the court’s mediation centre, they were counselled in a bid to resolve their issues amicably.
During the sessions, both were encouraged to communicate openly and reflect on their relationship. Following sustained mediation, the couple agreed that many of their issues could be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
“We realised that most of our issues could be resolved through dialogue. We’re willing to make a fresh start,” the couple reportedly told the mediators.
Symbolic closure at Lok Adalat
On Saturday, Harish and Shashikala appeared before the Lok Adalat, presided over by Principal District and Sessions Judge Basavaraj. In a symbolic gesture of reconciliation, the couple exchanged garlands, officially marking the closure of the divorce case.
The event was witnessed by Jaibunnisa, Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, along with several judges and legal professionals from across Dakshina Kannada district.
Lok Adalat’s role in family harmony
Officials highlighted that the case was a successful example of the Lok Adalat’s role, not only in legal settlement but also in restoring harmony within families. Through mediation and dialogue, the institution helped the couple avoid prolonged legal battles and emotional distress, underscoring the importance of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in family law.
Conclusion
The reconciliation of Harish and Shashikala demonstrates how Lok Adalats can positively impact personal lives while reducing the burden on courts. Legal experts emphasise that such interventions are instrumental in encouraging amicable settlements and fostering social harmony.
