The Dakshina Kannada district BJP unit has announced a protest on Friday against the alleged land encroachments by the Waqf Board in the state. The demonstration will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in front of the Gandhi statue near Town Hall in Mangaluru. District BJP president Sathish Kumpala stated that the protest, under the slogan “Namma Bhoomi Namma Hakku” (Our Land, Our Right), aims to oppose the Waqf Board’s alleged land encroachments.
A team led by former MLC Monappa Bhandary and several advocates has been formed in the district to investigate the alleged misuse of Waqf Board powers. Kumpala revealed that their findings suggest about 30 acres of revenue land in Mangaluru taluk has been transferred to the Waqf Board. The team is currently examining the details of these land transfers and plans to compile similar reports for the entire district, which will then be submitted to the state BJP for further action.
The protest aims to raise awareness among farmers, religious mutts, temples, bhajana mandirs, and SC/ST communities regarding these alleged encroachments. Kumpala urged people to check their Pahani records for any discrepancies in land ownership. Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, along with local MLAs and MLCs, will join the protest, alongside members of Hindu crematorium committees, religious leaders, and mutt heads.
Kumpala also criticized the sudden cancellation of BPL cards in the state, stating that many poor families were unfairly deprived of benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme due to the abrupt decision.
