Mangaluru: The final electoral roll for Dakshina Kannada district was published on Monday, October 27, following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 in Karnataka. The revised list contains 16,78,448 voters, with 9,064 names deleted during the revision process, according to Deputy Commissioner Darshan H V.

Addressing a press conference in Mangaluru, the deputy commissioner said the final list includes 8,23,198 male voters, 8,55,232 female voters and 18 third-gender voters. The publication marks the completion of the revision and verification exercise in the district, during which officials processed applications for new enrolments, corrections and deletions.

The final electoral roll reflects changes made after the draft list was published on August 24. Authorities also disposed of notices and inquiries issued during the revision period, while voters have been advised to verify their names and personal details in the updated list.

Final voter count increases after revision

According to the deputy commissioner, the draft electoral roll published on August 24 contained 16,46,387 voters. Following the claims, objections and verification process, 32,061 voters were added to the final list.

However, 9,064 names were deleted, primarily in cases involving deceased voters and individuals who had permanently relocated. The revision was intended to ensure that the electoral roll accurately reflected the eligible electorate in the district.

Officials also disposed of 53,806 applications related to corrections in the electoral roll. These applications covered changes to voter details, which were examined and processed as part of the revision exercise.

The district administration said all 1,50,131 notices and inquiries received during the revision period had been completely disposed of, leaving no cases pending at the end of the exercise.

The completion of the process is significant for the administration of electoral records, as an updated roll helps ensure that eligible citizens are correctly listed and that outdated entries are addressed in accordance with the prescribed procedures.

Constituency-wise voter count in Dakshina Kannada

The final electoral roll provides a constituency-wise breakdown of voters across the district’s eight Assembly constituencies.

The numbers are as follows:

  • Beltangady: 2,22,254 voters
  • Moodbidri: 1,97,712 voters
  • Mangaluru City North: 2,27,530 voters
  • Mangaluru City South: 2,12,512 voters
  • Mangaluru: 1,98,956 voters
  • Bantwal: 2,15,710 voters
  • Puttur: 2,04,181 voters
  • Sullia: 1,99,593 voters

Mangaluru City North has the highest electorate among the eight constituencies, with 2,27,530 voters, followed by Beltangady with 2,22,254. Moodbidri has the lowest electorate, with 1,97,712 voters.

The constituency-wise figures account for the district’s total electorate of 16,78,448 voters.

More than 41,000 new voters added

During the claims and objections period following the publication of the draft electoral roll, authorities received applications for new enrolments and changes to existing voter details.

A total of 41,125 new voters were added during this period. These included 32,986 applications submitted under Form 6, 357 applications under Form 6A and 7,782 applications under Form 8.

Form 6 is used by eligible citizens to apply for inclusion in the electoral roll. Form 6A is intended for eligible overseas Indian voters, while Form 8 is used for purposes such as corrections to electoral details and other permitted changes.

The inclusion of new voters is particularly important for young citizens who have recently become eligible to participate in elections.

The district has 25,326 voters in the 18–19 age group. Of these, 12,418 were already included in the draft electoral roll, while another 12,908 young voters were added during the revision process.

The figures indicate that a substantial proportion of the newly enrolled electorate comprises young people entering the electoral system for the first time.

Voters with disabilities and senior citizens

The final electoral roll also records voters belonging to various categories who may require specific electoral arrangements or assistance.

Dakshina Kannada has 13,420 voters with disabilities, comprising 7,607 men and 5,813 women.

The district has 14,086 voters aged above 85 years. These figures provide electoral authorities with information that can help them plan appropriate arrangements to facilitate participation by senior citizens and persons with disabilities, subject to applicable election rules.

The number of Non-Resident Indian (NRI) voters in the district stands at 366, including 210 men and 156 women. In addition, the electoral roll contains 449 service electors.

The inclusion of these categories helps provide a more detailed picture of the district’s electorate and supports the planning of election-related services.

Objections examined under prescribed procedures

The claims and objections period concluded on September 23. During this period, authorities received 1,205 objections relating to the electoral roll.

Of these, 879 were formal applications submitted under Form 7, while 326 were informal or incomplete submissions.

Form 7 is used to raise objections to the inclusion of a name in the electoral roll or to seek deletion of an entry, subject to the applicable rules and verification requirements.

Officials examined the objections according to prescribed procedures. They emphasised that requests for deletion must be supported by valid grounds and the necessary documents before any changes can be made to the electoral roll.

The verification process was part of the broader exercise to review existing entries, incorporate eligible voters and address discrepancies identified during the revision.

The district administration said that the disposal of all notices and inquiries meant the cases taken up during the exercise had been processed before publication of the final list.

Continuous updating of electoral rolls to continue

Deputy Commissioner Darshan H V said the continuous updating of the electoral roll would remain in progress even after the publication of the final list.

Eligible citizens can continue to apply for the inclusion of their names, corrections to existing entries or transfers, in accordance with the applicable procedures.

The publication of the final electoral roll concludes the SIR-2026 exercise in Dakshina Kannada, but maintaining accurate voter records remains an ongoing responsibility. The district administration has urged residents to check their details and use the available official channels to address any discrepancies.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Raju was present at the press conference.
