Malaria cases in Dakshina Kannada have dropped dramatically from 4,741 in 2017 to just 87 in 2024. However, dengue remains a concern, with 497 cases reported this year, nearly 200 in the past three months. The health department remains vigilant as malaria cases emerge from migrants arriving from states like Odisha and Jharkhand.
Dr. Naveen Chandra Kulal, district vector-borne disease control officer, highlighted that sporadic dengue infections persist despite the drop in malaria. Viral fevers have also been reported, though hospitalizations remain low. He advised the public to rest, drink boiled water, and not ignore symptoms.
