Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association is marking its Golden Jubilee with a grand celebration on August 6 at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall, Mangaluru.

The inaugural ceremony began at 9 a.m. and is being presided over by Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, and several other elected officials are expected to grace the occasion.

One of the key highlights is the presentation of the Suvarna Sambhrama Honour, a prestigious lifetime achievement award, to Dr. M Mohan Alva, President of Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri.

Former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda will release a special commemorative souvenir to mark 50 years of the association. In addition, Shivananda Tagadur, President of the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists, will launch a documentary film chronicling the association’s journey over the decades.

Prof. P.L. Dharma, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, will distribute awards to winners of the recently held state-level photography competition.

A panel discussion titled “Present and Future of Media” will be moderated by Ravi Hegde, Editor-in-Chief of Kannadaprabha and Suvarna News. Panelists include B. Ravindra Shetty, Resident Editor of Vijaya Karnataka, and Walter Nandalike, Managing Editor of Daijiworld Pvt. Ltd.

The valedictory session, scheduled for 3 p.m., will honour former presidents of the association. R. Ashoka, Leader of the Opposition, will felicitate the dignitaries, and K.V. Prabhakar, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister, will deliver the closing remarks.

Present at the press briefing were association leaders including P.B. Harish Rai, Bhaskar Rai Katta, Jitendra Kundeshwar, Pushparaj B.N., and Ibrahim Adkasthala.
