In a disturbing event from Mulki, Dakshina Kannada, an 86-year-old woman was reportedly attacked by her two daughters due to an ongoing property conflict. The incident, which took place on June 11, left the elderly woman with serious injuries. She is currently receiving medical care at a hospital in Mangaluru.
Nearly two weeks earlier, a formal complaint had been submitted by Rajani Raj—chairperson of the Women and Child Welfare Department in Mandya’s Maddur region. Rajani acted on behalf of the elderly victim and brought the issue to the attention of Mangaluru city police commissioner, Sudheer Kumar Reddy.
Responding with urgency, Commissioner Reddy personally visited the location where the woman was found sitting, visibly hurt and distressed. After attentively listening to her harrowing account, he instructed the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) of Panambur division to carry out a detailed inquiry and take swift legal measures.
The woman, later identified as Manorama, expressed deep gratitude for the prompt response. Accompanied by Rajani Raj and her team, she thanked Commissioner Reddy for his timely intervention.
Rajani Raj was widely applauded for her relentless advocacy and support of senior citizens’ rights. Her efforts have earned her respect from the local community for stepping up when needed most.
