Mangaluru– Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan conducted an on-ground inspection of Pumpwell and Kettikal on Tuesday to assess rain-related challenges in these vulnerable city areas.
At Pumpwell, a known flood-prone spot during monsoon showers, the DC reviewed the location affected by frequent waterlogging. He instructed Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) engineers to identify and rectify technical blockages hampering the free flow of rainwater in the Raja canal. Addressing this issue, he stressed, is essential to prevent repetitive urban flooding.
Later, at Kettikal, where landslides pose a threat to commuters, the DC directed National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials to urgently deploy engineering solutions. His focus was on stabilizing the area and ensuring uninterrupted traffic on the national highway.
The inspection team included MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, NHAI Project Director Abdulla Javed, and other senior officials who accompanied the DC during the site visits.
The DC emphasized the need for swift action, especially with the monsoon intensifying, to protect public safety and maintain infrastructure integrity.
