Mangaluru: Mangaluru International Airport has strengthened its landside security infrastructure with the inauguration of a dedicated Police Outpost by G. Parameshwara, Hon’ble Home Minister of Karnataka.
The new facility, strategically located adjacent to the airport’s exit toll gate, is designed to ensure continuous police presence at a critical access point. The initiative aims to enhance rapid response capability and strengthen coordination among multiple security and administrative agencies operating at the coastal gateway.
Purpose-built security infrastructure
Spread across 1,650 square feet, the two-floor Police Outpost has been purpose-built to support real-time response and operational coordination.
The ground floor houses a holding cell, two workstation rooms and an office space. These facilities enable on-site enquiry handling, documentation and immediate intervention in the event of security or law-and-order concerns. The presence of a holding facility within airport premises significantly reduces reliance on external infrastructure, thereby improving response times during emergencies.
The first floor comprises a lounge and a dedicated landside control room. This control room is expected to strengthen monitoring of vehicular movement and public areas outside the terminal building, ensuring enhanced surveillance of landside operations.
Strengthening landside vigilance
With passenger traffic steadily rising and airport operations becoming increasingly complex, reinforcing landside vigilance has become a strategic priority. The newly inaugurated outpost complements the existing police check post near the entry toll gate, thereby creating integrated security coverage at both entry and exit points of the airport.
This integrated approach enhances deterrence against unlawful activities and ensures quicker mobilisation of personnel in case of emergencies. The presence of operational workstations within the outpost allows for faster decision-making and seamless information flow among stakeholders.
Inter-agency coordination and preparedness
The initiative is expected to deepen coordination between airport management, the Airport Security Group unit of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the Mangaluru City Police. Improved communication channels and shared monitoring capabilities are likely to streamline response protocols and strengthen joint preparedness.
The inauguration underscores the commitment of the Government of Karnataka, law enforcement authorities and airport stakeholders to continuously upgrade security infrastructure in line with evolving operational requirements.
