Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP has called for the creation of local crisis groups within industries and factories to handle accidents and disasters effectively. Speaking at the Dakshina Kannada District Crisis Group meeting held at MCF, Panambur, the DC emphasized the need for industries, particularly those in Panambur, Baikampady, and Surathkal, to be well-prepared for potential disasters.

Industries must develop disaster management plans tailored to their specific needs, he said. The DC further instructed that industrial representatives, local organizations, and government hospital doctors collaborate to form crisis groups that can manage industrial disasters and prevent their spread to surrounding areas.

He stressed the importance of integrating these plans with the district’s disaster management framework, ensuring that safety equipment, manpower, and resources are regularly checked. The DC also highlighted the need to inform industrial units about procedures for natural disasters, industrial hazards, and potential crises, and to raise public awareness about risks associated with hazardous factories.

In addition, he advised oil companies to take necessary precautions to prevent leaks and accidents during oil tanker operations. Factories producing hazardous materials should regularly conduct mock drills to assess their disaster management plans.

The meeting was attended by DCF Antony Mariyappa, deputy director of factories MS Mahadev, MCF chief production officer Girish, and district disaster management coordinator Vijay Kumar, among others. After the meeting, a mock drill simulating an ammonia leak was conducted at MCF to demonstrate the effectiveness of the crisis management plan.
