Mangaluru: Chandravathy, sister of Padmalatha, who went missing 39 years ago, has expressed willingness to cooperate with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) if the decades-old case is reopened.
Padmalatha, then a second PUC student in Ujire, vanished on December 22, 1986, after leaving home to attend her college’s annual day celebration. Nearly 56 days later, her skeletal remains were found, with her hands and legs tied, raising serious suspicions about foul play.
Chandravathy recalled that intense public protests at the time had led to the case being transferred to the CID, but with no breakthrough, it was eventually declared closed.
Now, with the formation of a new SIT, Chandravathy says it has revived hope for justice. “If the SIT chooses to reopen the case, I will fully support the investigation,” she said.
