Mangaluru: Online scams continue to plague the digital era, luring unsuspecting victims into financial traps despite widespread warnings. A recent case involving the RPC app in Dakshina Kannada highlights the devastating consequences of such schemes.

The RPC app attracted users by promising easy earnings through video-watching. Initially, participants saw small returns, which built trust and expanded the network. Organized programs and assurances of high profits led many to invest substantial amounts, eventually reaching crores of rupees.

On December 24, the RPC app abruptly shut down, leaving investors in shock. Tragically, on the same day, Surya (24), a Moodushedde resident, went missing. Two days later, his body was discovered in the Maravoor river.

Sources revealed that Surya had invested Rs 70,000 in the app, money he had borrowed. Facing financial ruin after the app’s collapse, he is believed to have taken his own life.

The incident underscores the severe repercussions of digital fraud on individuals and families. Kavoor police are investigating the case to uncover more details.

Authorities urge people to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of online earning platforms to avoid falling prey to such schemes.
