District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has instructed officials to initiate measures for the construction of the long-awaited Ranga Mandira in Mangaluru. Chairing a meeting at the Inspection Bungalow in Bantwal, the minister shared that a proposal for the Rs 9.95 crore project had already been submitted to the government for administrative approval.
The minister further discussed the matter with Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi, expressing confidence that government approval would be granted soon. Once the approval is obtained, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will move forward with the tendering process for the project.
During the meeting, Minister Rao reviewed the design plans for the Ranga Mandira, emphasizing the importance of creating a space that is fully equipped to enhance cultural activities. He highlighted that the Rs 9.95 crore allocated for the project should be used to complete the main structure, while additional funds required for interior designs, lighting, and sound systems will be provided by the Kannada and Culture Department, MCC, and Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
The Bondel location was deemed ideal for the Ranga Mandira, with the minister urging officials to include proper access roads and other necessary infrastructure in the project’s planning.
DK Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP briefed the minister on the progress, and several officials, including MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak and Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture Department Rajesh G, attended the meeting.
