Dr. Anandh K, CEO of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, has instructed gram panchayats to implement preventive steps to mitigate drinking water shortages in rural areas. Presiding over the District Water and Sanitation Mission meeting on Monday, he stressed the importance of ensuring uninterrupted water availability and suggested deploying water tankers if required.
“If public roads need to be excavated for pipeline installation, the concerned authorities must coordinate efficiently and accelerate the process,” he stated, warning that delays in water projects would not be tolerated.
Borewell Revitalization and Jal Jeevan Mission Progress
Dr. Anandh K highlighted that gram panchayats can utilize their own funds to drill new borewells if necessary. Meanwhile, the zilla panchayat will oversee the revitalization of existing borewells to enhance water supply.
Additionally, the CEO reviewed the status of ongoing drinking water projects, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide clean and sustainable water access in rural areas.
The directive comes as a precautionary measure against potential water shortages, ensuring rural communities receive adequate drinking water throughout the summer months.
