Mangaluru: Residents of Malemar Derebail have been enduring severe hardship as drainage water floods their front yards for the fifth consecutive day, exposing the negligence of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). Despite raising the issue for over five years, residents claim authorities and local representatives have failed to take any corrective action.

The overflowing drainage has left the area reeking of foul odours, with one home entirely surrounded by stagnant water. Previously plagued by rainwater flooding during monsoons, the affected house now faces a year-round threat from drainage overflow.

This situation poses serious health risks, particularly with diseases like malaria and dengue on the rise during this season. The contamination of drinking water has further aggravated the plight of residents, highlighting the urgency of the issue.

Residents demand accountability from the MCC, urging it to resolve the long-standing drainage issue and prevent further hazards. Immediate intervention by the MCC and local corporator is essential to alleviate the residents’ suffering and mitigate the health and environmental dangers.
