Mangaluru: DreamDeal Group has terminated two employees, Ubaid and Harshith, over allegations of cheating customers during a prize draw. The incident came to light after a video showcasing their misconduct went viral.
At a press conference held at the company’s Jappinamogaru office, Mohammad Suhail, a senior representative, addressed the issue. He confirmed that the company has lodged a complaint at the Kankanady police station and dismissed the employees involved.
Allegations of misconduct
The accused employees were overseeing the draw in Mangaluru while the company leadership was attending the inauguration of a new branch in Davanagere. In the viral video, the duo was seen tampering with the prize draw, which was streamed live on YouTube.
Suhail stated, “The employees confessed to their actions during police questioning. This incident is a betrayal by staff members, not a fault of the company.” He further mentioned that the company incurred a significant loss as one vehicle, a Thar Jeep, was wrongfully awarded during the fraudulent draw.
Business model and future plans
DreamDeal Group operates across Karnataka with 15 branches and claims to be a legitimate business offering rewards to customers. The company’s model involves selling items via an e-commerce platform and providing purchase-based coupons that enter customers into prize draws. Suhail emphasised that the business is fully compliant with legal norms and plans to expand nationwide.
“Our aim is to grow DreamDeal into a platform like Amazon. If our plans materialise, the company will generate ₹180 crore in GST revenue annually,” Suhail said.
Measures to restore trust
To ensure transparency, the company has introduced live streaming for all future draws via YouTube. Suhail also announced stricter monitoring mechanisms to prevent such incidents in the future.
“We are committed to maintaining customer trust. This is an isolated incident caused by individual employees, and corrective measures have been taken,” he added.
Since its establishment in 2021, DreamDeal Group has provided employment to 1,500 individuals and expanded its e-commerce operations over the last year. The company expressed its intent to strengthen operations and ensure no such lapses occur again.
The press conference was attended by Kishan Bhatt and Sajid, directors of DreamDeal Group.
