Mangaluru: The 8th Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Mangaluru has sentenced a car driver to one month of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 in connection with a hit-and-run case that claimed the life of a scooter rider at Yeyyadi Junction in 2023.
The court delivered the verdict after examining the evidence presented during the trial and hearing arguments from the prosecution. The case relates to a road accident in which the accused allegedly fled the scene after knocking down a scooter rider.
Accident occurred in April 2023
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on April 25, 2023, at Yeyyadi Junction. The accused, who was driving a car, allegedly hit a scooter, causing fatal injuries to the rider.
Instead of stopping to assist the victim or reporting the accident to the authorities, the driver allegedly fled the scene, leading to the registration of a hit-and-run case.
The scooter rider later succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident, prompting a detailed investigation by the police.
Court finds accused guilty
Following the investigation, charges were filed against the accused and the matter was taken up before the 8th JMFC Court.
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence and examined witnesses to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident and the accused’s involvement in the case.
After evaluating the evidence on record, the court found the accused guilty and proceeded to pronounce the sentence.
The convicted driver has been identified as Satish, a resident of Siddarth Nagar in Bajpe.
One-month jail term and fine imposed
The court sentenced Satish to one month of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for the offence.
The judgment highlights the legal consequences of failing to remain at the scene of an accident and neglecting to provide assistance to victims following a road mishap.
