MANGALURU: An egg transport vehicle overturned near Adyar on Monday morning after being hit from behind by a lorry, resulting in heavy damage to its load and temporary disruption of traffic. The accident occurred on December 9, 2025, along the busy Farangipete–Mangaluru route.

Collision causes vehicle to overturn

According to police, the incident took place at around 10 a.m. when the tempo carrying eggs was travelling towards Mangaluru. As it approached the vicinity of Adyar Sahyadri College, a lorry coming from behind reportedly rammed into it. The impact caused the tempo to mount the road divider and overturn, spilling its cargo across the roadway.

No injuries but heavy loss of goods

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the accident. However, the vehicle’s load—consisting of eggs worth thousands of rupees—was severely damaged. The eggs broke open upon impact with the road, creating a slippery and messy stretch that required immediate clearing.

Police stated that the scattered eggs caused temporary traffic disruption, as vehicles had to slow down or take alternate lanes to avoid the debris. Efforts were made to clear the road promptly to restore smooth movement of vehicles.

Police inquiry underway

Authorities have begun preliminary investigations to determine the exact cause of the collision and whether negligence or speeding played a role. Statements from the drivers of both vehicles, as well as eyewitness accounts, are being collected.

The overturned vehicle was later removed from the accident spot with the help of local personnel and traffic police, who ensured the flow of traffic returned to normal soon after.
