Mangaluru: A district-level exhibition and sales event spotlighting products crafted by self-help groups (SHGs) took place on Saturday at the Mangaluru Taluk Panchayat premises.
The initiative was a collaborative effort by the Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, and the Sanjeevini – Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Promotion Society (KSRLPS).
The event was inaugurated by K E Jayaram, project director of the Zilla Panchayat, who lit the ceremonial lamp. He noted that Sanjeevini-NRLM has become a crucial platform for promoting SHG products and urged women to obtain certifications and formal registrations for their enterprises.
Mangaluru assistant commissioner Harshavardhan S J launched the SHG stalls and personally supported the sellers by buying their handmade items.
Executive officer of Mangaluru Taluk Panchayat, Mahesh Holla, lauded the efforts of women entrepreneurs, stating that their work is proof of what women can accomplish with determination.
Awards were presented to outstanding federations for their notable achievements. The ‘Amara Sanjeevini’ federation from Guttigar earned the Best Federation Award and Rs 1 lakh. Ashirvad Federation from Golthamajalu received Rs 75,000 and Samruddhi Federation from Balnadu was given Rs 50,000.
In the SHG category, Sri Siddhivinayak SHG received Rs 75,000, Lakshmi SHG from Tannirupantha won Rs 50,000, and Vijaya Sri SHG from Kodimbadi earned Rs 25,000.
Over 30 federations displayed more than 70 unique products, attracting steady footfall. The event included a welcome by NRLM’s Irene Rebello and a cultural show led by Vanishree.
