Shrihari MB, a farmer from Bolugallu, Sullia, has developed Monkey Shock Pads, an innovative device inspired by solar fencing to protect his coconut trees from monkey raids. Monkeys, notorious for consuming coconuts and tender coconuts, left Shrihari with no yield, prompting him to devise this sustainable solution.
Using PVC pipes, aluminum sheets, and solar-powered shock pads strategically installed on trees, Shrihari’s device delivers a harmless 1200-volt pulse to deter monkeys. Since implementation, the protected trees have been spared, proving the system’s effectiveness.
Shrihari plans to expand the installation to all 77 trees on his farm and encourages other farmers to adopt the method. Though not commercializing the device, Shrihari offers guidance to help fellow farmers combat the monkey menace sustainably.
