The ICAR Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) in Kasaragod, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, organized a farmers’ meeting on Sunday to celebrate the release of 109 new crop varieties by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at IARI, New Delhi. The event at CPCRI was inaugurated by K. Balachandra Hebbar, Director of ICAR-CPCRI, and presided over by Dr. B. Augustine Gerard, Project Coordinator for Palms.

During the meeting, Director Hebbar introduced the newly released coconut varieties—Kalpa Suvarna and Kalpa Shatabdi—along with two cocoa varieties, VTL CH-1 and VTL CH-2, developed by CPCRI. Dr. K. Samsudeen and Dr. C. Thamban, principal scientists at CPCRI, engaged in discussions with the farmers, sharing insights and answering queries.

The event was well-attended, with 77 farmers participating. As part of the initiative, the farmers were provided with seedlings of the Kalpa Suvarna variety, encouraging them to cultivate the newly developed crop.
