Mangaluru: Father Muller Medical College (FMMC) commemorated National Doctors’ Day with heartfelt gratitude, academic rigour, and spirited fellowship during its Clinical Society Meet, chaired this year by the Department of Ophthalmology. The celebration paid homage to the medical profession’s enduring service and honoured those who embody the institution’s mission of healing and humanity.

A day of tribute and academic celebration

The session was presided over by Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), while Dr J.P. Alva, former Dean of FMMC and Senior Consultant Physician at FMMCH, was the chief guest. Held on the college campus, the event brought together faculty, administrators, and medical professionals in an atmosphere of gratitude, remembrance, and professional pride.

The Clinical Society Meet, a cornerstone of Father Muller’s academic calendar, has always been more than a forum for medical knowledge exchange. It serves as a moment to reflect on the values of clinical excellence, empathy, and unity that define the institution. This year, it also marked the symbolic presentation of magnetic faculty badges to doctors in the management—a gesture that reinforced the institution’s commitment to honouring its dedicated faculty.

A life of service and inspiration

In his deeply personal and moving address, Dr J.P. Alva expressed sincere appreciation for being recognised on such a meaningful occasion. Recounting his journey with humility, he acknowledged the enduring influence of his patients, mentors, and his late father. “Wealth may follow,” he said, “but service and unity must lead.” He urged young doctors to practise with integrity, empathy, and dedication, the true hallmarks of the profession.

Institutional gratitude and divine healing

Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, in his presidential address, paid homage to the global community of doctors who serve tirelessly, especially in moments of crisis. He expressed deep gratitude to the FMCI medical faculty, noting their vital role in sustaining the institution’s legacy of care. “God is the Divine Healer, but through doctors, His healing is made manifest,” he reminded the gathering.

Orchestrated with care

The programme was thoughtfully planned by Dr Sunayana Bhat, Professor and Unit Head, Ophthalmology and Chairperson of the Clinical Society 2024–25. She was ably supported by Dr Sarita R.J. Lobo, Head of Department, and a committed faculty team. The event was hosted with poise by Dr Dilon Noronha, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Madhurima Nayak.

The day’s significance was further enhanced by the presence of several dignitaries including:

  • Fr George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator

  • Dr Antony Sylvan D’Souza, Dean, FMMC

  • Dr B.M. Venkatesh, Vice Dean

  • Dr Uday Kumar, Medical Superintendent

  • Dr Kishan Shetty, Deputy Medical Superintendent

  • Dr Kiran Shetty, Additional Medical Superintendent

  • Heads of various departments and senior faculty

  • Celebration through joy and fellowship

Adding a joyful dimension to the occasion, Dr May Dsouza conducted spot games that brought smiles and laughter to the gathering. The event concluded with a fellowship lunch, where doctors and staff bonded over shared stories, camaraderie, and mutual respect.
