Mangaluru: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH)has introduced the latest in laparoscopic surgical technology by installing the OLYMPUS Laparoscopic System, marking a significant step forward in advanced gynaecological care in the region.

The state-of-the-art system, stationed at the Labour Theatre Complex, was unveiled and blessed on 27 May 2025 by Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions. The event saw the presence of Management Committee members, faculty from the Departments of OBG and Anaesthesia, and Labour OT staff.

A leap in laparoscopic capability

Dr Deepa Kanagal, Head of the Department of OBG, highlighted the significance of the acquisition, noting that this is the first of its kind in Mangaluru and sets a new standard in minimally invasive surgical care.

The department, already recognised for performing the highest number of laparoscopic surgeries among city-based medical colleges, now adds cutting-edge imaging, safety, and surgical precision to its daily procedures. These include routine surgeries like salpingectomy and ovarian cystectomy, as well as complex interventions such as endometriotic surgeries and Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomies (TLH).
