Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday announced that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of 32-year-old Abdul Rahiman in Bantwal taluk, Dakshina Kannada. He emphasized that the government is treating the case with utmost seriousness and is determined to stamp out communal violence.
Parameshwara revealed that critical leads have emerged during interrogation of the accused, which will aid in further investigation and action. He made the announcement after meeting with District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and stressed that no one involved in such crimes will be spared, regardless of their affiliations.
Highlighting the volatile nature of regions like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Shivamogga, the minister declared them “sensitive zones” and said stringent measures would be enforced. The government has also issued an order to form a special Anti-Communal Force, drawn partly from the now-disbanded Anti-Naxal unit, to tackle hate crimes in these areas.
The Home Minister condemned retaliatory violence and stressed the importance of restoring harmony, warning that hate-driven cycles of revenge can tear society apart. He urged elected representatives to exercise restraint and work towards peace.
Abdul Rahiman and his co-worker Kalandar Shafi were attacked with a sword by two bike-borne assailants while unloading gravel. Rahiman died on the spot, and Shafi is undergoing treatment.
Parameshwara concluded by stressing the need for peace meetings, strict law enforcement, and enhanced focus on preserving Dakshina Kannada’s developmental potential.
