In a chilling verdict related to the 2014 double homicide in Attavar, the First Additional District and Sessions Court has convicted three men for orchestrating and executing the brutal murders. The sentencing is expected shortly.
The culprits—Mohammad Muhajir Sanaaf (34) from Cherkala, A. Mohammad Irshad (35) from Anangur, and A. Mohammad Safwan (35)—were found guilty of killing Nafeer and Faheem following a fallout over illicit gold profits.
Nafeer had reportedly smuggled gold bars from overseas. Using part of the proceeds, the trio purchased land in Badiadka, Kasargod, under Safwan’s name. They plotted to murder the victims and conceal the bodies at the site.
On May 15, 2014, they rented a house in Attavar and invited the victims under the guise of friendship. Early on July 1, while Nafeer and Faheem slept, the trio fatally stabbed them. Their bodies were then transported to the Badiadka plot and buried in pre-dug pits.
To erase traces of the crime, the accused cleaned the crime scene and discarded bloodstained items in the Chandragiri River. Their arrest on July 6 near Mahakali Padpu, while carrying suspicious materials, led to the discovery of the burial site.
Authorities later recovered 2.7 kg of gold linked to the case. Dr. Mahabala Shetty led the post-mortem efforts, and Judge Mallikarjuna Swamy H S delivered the ruling after testimonies from 47 witnesses and review of 97 documents.
Prosecutors Raju Poojary and Judith Crasta spearheaded the legal proceedings.
