The Karnataka State Aided School and College Employees Association’s DK South Zone has appealed to the state government for urgent support to address the growing challenges faced by aided schools. Members of the association recently met with Madhu Bangarappa, the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, to discuss the dire situation.

Challenges faced by aided schools

A significant issue highlighted during the meeting was the non-recruitment of permanent teachers, which has been on hold for the past 23 years. Additionally, aided schools have not received major financial assistance from the government in recent years, making it difficult for these institutions to function effectively.

According to KMK Manjanady, the president of the DK south zone, aided schools across Karnataka provide quality education and have made immense contributions to the state’s development. However, despite the impact these schools have had on the community, government policies have led to many of them shutting down, even those with over 300 students.

Requests for teacher appointments and benefits

The association has urged the government to appoint permanent teachers immediately. While the recruitment process has begun, it has faced delays due to technical issues. The association also emphasized that priority should be given to guest teachers who have served in these schools for years.

Furthermore, the group called for physical education teachers in high schools to receive benefits based on seniority and qualifications and be considered for head teacher positions.

Equal treatment for all schools

The association also expressed concerns over the state of private and unaided Kannada medium schools, urging that these institutions should receive the same benefits as government schools, such as the Midday Meal scheme. With declining student enrolment in aided schools, they requested that the government establish optimal student-teacher ratios to ensure better education quality.

The appeal calls for the government to extend all benefits available to government schools to aided institutions, ensuring their survival and continued contribution to education in Karnataka.
