Ahead of the new academic session commencing on May 29, the state government has allocated ₹11 crore for the restoration of classrooms in government-run schools across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The initiative is aimed at improving infrastructure and ensuring a clean and safe learning environment for students returning after the summer break.
In Dakshina Kannada, approximately ₹6.97 crore will be utilised to revamp 750+ classrooms in 312 schools. Similarly, Udupi has been granted ₹4.11 crore for the repair of 699 classrooms spread across 228 schools.
The repair efforts will cover a wide range of regions:
-
DK: Bantwal (57 schools), Beltangady (48), Mangaluru North (37), Mangaluru South (69), Moodbidri (23), Puttur (49), and Sullia (29).
Udupi: Udupi (46), Kaup (32), Kundapura (66), Karkala (34), and Byndoor (51).
Education officials from both districts have issued firm instructions to complete renovation activities swiftly and to send progress reports without delay. Monsoon-readiness has also been emphasized during these preparations.
As part of the school reopening celebrations (Prarambhotsava), campuses will be decked with mango leaf garlands and floral decorations. Students—especially new admissions—will receive a warm reception with bouquets and sweets. A special mid-day meal featuring payasam will be served on the first day, with some schools offering extra treats through local sponsorships.
