Mangaluru: The Harekala village gram panchayat (GP) in Ullal taluk, under the Mangaluru assembly constituency represented by Speaker UT Khader, is in the final phase of distributing residential sites to over 270 homeless families.
According to GP vice-president Majeed Harekala, 9.5 acres of land in Malar village has been earmarked for this purpose, and a final list of beneficiaries will be prepared soon. The layout will be fully equipped with essential infrastructure, ensuring a better quality of life for the selected families, in line with the vision of MLA Khader.
“The last site distribution by the gram panchayat was over two decades ago. Following our MLA’s directive, revenue officials identified land to fulfill the aspirations of families with pending site applications. We have received 279 applications, which are being verified by the tahsildar, revenue inspector, and village accountant. All eligible families will receive sites free of cost,” Majeed stated.
Each family will be allotted a three-cent plot, prioritizing those without homes. The identified land, originally a hilly terrain, has been leveled using earthmovers to facilitate construction. Officials are ensuring that no family receives multiple plots through duplicate applications.
Once the site allocation process is complete, the gram panchayat will request the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Limited to construct homes under government schemes. Additional revenue land in other locations is also being considered for similar development projects.
Speaker Khader has instructed officials to expedite the process and ensure timely allotment to all deserving families.
