Mangaluru: The Karnataka High Court has issued a significant directive in the case involving Suhan Shetty, accused of delivering a communal hate speech during a public event in Puttur.
The case, registered at Puttur City Police Station under Crime No. 35/2025, cites Sections 196 and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. During the recent hearing, senior advocate Arun Shyam, representing the petitioner, argued on behalf of Bharat, emphasizing the need for fair treatment in the course of legal proceedings.
Responding to these submissions, the bench led by Justice Krishna Kumar ordered the police to refrain from applying pressure or using any coercive measures against Suhan Shetty. The court further instructed the authorities to ensure full cooperation with the ongoing investigation, allowing due process to take its course without infringement on the individual’s rights.
In the continuation of the investigation, officials had previously secured a search warrant from the concerned court and conducted a search operation at a residence located in Kumail, Pudu village, within Bantwal taluk.
The court’s direction aims to maintain judicial balance—upholding the law while preventing harassment—especially in sensitive cases involving communal discourse.
The matter remains under investigation, with law enforcement directed to act strictly within legal boundaries.
