Mangaluru– The MESCOM (Mangalore Electricity Supply Company) has reported extensive damage to its power infrastructure following intense wind and rain across its operational districts. A staggering 10,583 electricity poles have toppled and numerous transformers have sustained damage, resulting in a financial loss exceeding ₹16.45 crore.

The most severe impact was observed in Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts between April and June 15. Dakshina Kannada alone recorded property damage amounting to ₹6.91 crore, while Chikkamagaluru reported losses worth ₹3.85 crore. The Udupi district faced damages of approximately ₹3.73 crore, and Shivamogga accounted for around ₹1.95 crore.

In terms of pole damage, Dakshina Kannada led with 4,227 poles affected. Udupi reported 2,173, Chikkamagaluru 2,238, and Shivamogga 1,945 poles. Out of the 10,583 total damaged poles, MESCOM has successfully replaced 10,338, showcasing a rapid response to the crisis.

The storms also damaged 180 electricity transformers and disrupted 326.58 kilometers of electric lines, according to MESCOM authorities.
