The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a weather alert for parts of coastal Karnataka, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by sustained winds of 30–40 kmph on Monday, October 27.

According to the IMD, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain or thunder showers at one or two places. Similar weather conditions have also been predicted in Dakshina Kannada, where heavy rain and thunder showers with winds reaching 30–40 kmph are expected.

The department has advised residents in these coastal districts to remain cautious, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Fishermen have been urged to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough conditions and gusty winds.

The rainfall activity is attributed to moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea, combined with a trough of low pressure along the Karnataka coast, which is likely to bring intense localised downpours through the day.

Authorities have been asked to stay alert for possible waterlogging and landslides in hilly areas.
