Mangaluru – Owing to relentless downpours across Dakshina Kannada and a red alert issued by the weather department, the District Disaster Management Authority has rolled out urgent precautions. As part of these measures, a holiday has been declared for all educational institutions on Friday, July 25.
As per the announcement from the deputy commissioner and district magistrate’s office, classes will be suspended in all Anganwadi centres, government and private schools, PU colleges, and other academic institutions across the district.
Authorities have issued several important safety guidelines to minimize risks:
Parents are urged to prevent children from approaching flooded zones, rivers, lakes, or beaches.
Fishermen have been banned from setting out to sea until further notice.
Officials at the district and taluk levels must stay at their headquarters and actively coordinate emergency response efforts.
Regional nodal officers have been instructed to stay vigilant, address public concerns swiftly, and maintain contact with the District Control Room.
Tourists and residents have been strongly advised to avoid riverbanks and coastal regions during this period.
All related departments must activate control rooms in each taluk and stay prepared for emergency response.
For any disaster-related assistance, the public can dial the toll-free emergency helpline 1077 or reach the control room at 0824-2442590.
The deputy commissioner, who also heads the disaster management authority, appealed to citizens to remain alert and support authorities in ensuring public safety during these severe weather conditions.
