Due to continuous heavy rainfall, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have declared a holiday for schools and pre-university colleges on Tuesday, July 16. This decision, made by the disaster management authority, aims to ensure safety amid the adverse weather conditions.
The authorities have implemented several precautions in response to the persistent rain. Anganwadis, primary and high schools, as well as pre-university colleges including government and private institutions, will remain closed. Parents are urged to prevent children from visiting low-lying areas, lakes, seashores, and riverbanks. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the water.
At the taluk level, officers have been instructed to remain at their headquarters, and nodal officers appointed by the district administration are on alert to address public concerns. Tahsildars have been directed to maintain constant communication.
Rescue centers have been set up at taluk levels, ready to respond to emergencies. A toll-free control room number (1077) and local telephone numbers (0824-2442590 for DK, 0820-2574802 for Udupi) are operational 24×7 for emergency services.
As a precautionary measure, both residents and tourists are strictly prohibited from approaching beaches, rivers, and waterfalls. Taking photos and videos in these areas is also discouraged to prevent unnecessary risks.
