Illegal cattle transport busted near Mangaluru; driver flees scene

In the early hours of Friday, a vehicle allegedly smuggling cattle to Mangaluru was intercepted near Jarigebailu in Kaliya Nayatarpu. Though registered for vegetable transport, the vehicle was found loaded with 10 to 15 cows, reportedly meant for illegal slaughter.

Acting swiftly on a confidential alert, members of a right-wing outfit tracked and stopped the vehicle. However, the driver fled the spot before he could be caught.

A formal complaint led to the Beltangady police seizing both the vehicle and over 15 cattle. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation and legal action is underway.
