Mangaluru: ISKCON Kudupu Katte is set to launch a De-addiction Campaign in Mangaluru, addressing the growing issue of substance abuse in the region. This initiative, spearheaded by ISKCON’s youth wing, is part of its ongoing mission to guide society towards morality and cultural values.
Collaboration with the Government
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, has recognised ISKCON’s efforts in youth outreach and signed an MoU to amplify programmes tackling de-addiction and substance abuse. This recognition aligns with the urgency in Mangaluru, which accounts for 30% of Karnataka’s drug abuse cases. Local leaders, including Member of Parliament Captain Brajesh Chowta, have voiced concerns over the rising drug use in the South Canara region.
Awareness initiatives
The campaign will include a series of awareness programmes across educational institutions and public spaces. Its goal is to educate students and residents about the dangers of drug abuse and offer practical guidance to resist such influences.
Mega Youth Festival: Umang 3.0
As part of the campaign, ISKCON Kudupu Katte is organising Umang 3.0, a mega youth festival designed to blend wisdom with music and fun. The event will feature:
- Sriman Amogh Lila Das, Vice President of ISKCON Delhi, as the keynote speaker.
