Mangaluru– The newly opened Kalladka flyover on the Mangaluru–Bengaluru National Highway has drawn attention online—not just for easing traffic but for creating unexpected “waterfall zones” underneath. Since a stretch of the six-lane flyover was opened in late May for public convenience, rainwater pouring down from the structure has created problems for motorists using the service roads below.

Although partially operational, the flyover is still under construction. With no drainage pipes connected yet, rainwater flows freely off the edges, drenching vehicles passing or parked beneath. This has led to social media trolling, with netizens sharing videos of vehicles getting drenched under the cascading water. “Free car wash at Kalladka!” joked one post, while another added, “Why spend ₹400 at a service centre when Kalladka has this luxury?”

Despite the humor, commuters have raised serious concerns about the inconvenience and potential danger, especially during heavy downpours.

In response, NHAI officials stated that drainage pipeline installation is underway and will soon be completed. Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta confirmed the issue is being addressed and assured that all pending work would be wrapped up quickly.

Despite the drainage flaw, locals have acknowledged that the flyover’s opening has already reduced traffic congestion in Kalladka significantly. Residents and travelers continue to urge NHAI to fast-track the remaining construction as this highway remains a vital link between coastal and inland Karnataka.
