Mangaluru: BJP MLA Vedavyas Kamath has sharply criticized the Congress-led state administration for its alleged failure to carry out pre-monsoon safety and maintenance tasks in Mangaluru. He claimed this oversight is putting residents at risk as the rainy season nears.

Kamath, accompanied by a group of former BJP corporators, met with officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), urging them to immediately begin clearing stormwater drains and carry out critical repair works.

Addressing the media, Kamath stated that under BJP governance, such preparations would begin as early as March-end. However, he accused the current regime of neglecting even basic flood-prevention measures, despite April nearing its midpoint.

“Due to this inaction, even mild rain showers have led to drain overflows and waterlogging in many neighborhoods,” he noted.

He further criticised the district in-charge minister, pointing out the absence of meetings to tackle issues like clogged drains, drinking water scarcity, fallen trees, and garbage accumulation. Kamath alleged this neglect reflects a lack of concern for Mangaluru by the Congress government.

The BJP leader also warned that the party would intensify its protests against administrative apathy, and revealed plans to convene a meeting of civic leaders and former corporators to press for urgent action.

Former mayors Diwakar Pandeshwar and Premanand Shetty, along with several former corporators, were part of the delegation that joined Kamath in demanding swift intervention.
