A Railway Action Committee delegation from Kerala met Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai, urging him to push for discussions with Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on the long-pending Kanhangad-Kaniyoor railway project.
Project Status & Funding Concerns
The 91-km railway line, approved in 2008, requires a total budget of ₹1,350 crore, with Kerala and Karnataka expected to contribute ₹650 crore each on a 50:50 grant basis. While Kerala has committed its share, discussions with Karnataka remain pending. Talks are scheduled next week, where MLA Rai and the Railway Action Committee will meet the CM.
Connectivity & Benefits
The proposed line will pass through Meenoth, Kottodi, Balathodu, Panathur, Kallapalli, Sullia, Bellare, and Kaniyoor, improving Kerala-Karnataka connectivity and easing travel to Subrahmanya and Bengaluru.
