Mangaluru: KMC Hospital, Attavar, a constituent unit of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, celebrated ‘Aatida Sambhrama’ with enthusiasm, highlighting the rich cultural heritage, traditional cuisine and spirit of unity associated with Tulu Nadu.
The celebration brought together the hospital community to appreciate the customs and traditions observed during the month of Aati, while providing staff members an opportunity to showcase their cultural and artistic talents.
Traditional welcome with Aati Kalanja
The programme began with a traditional welcome for the guests through ‘Aati Kalanja’, a distinctive folk-art form of Tulu Nadu. The performance set the tone for the celebrations and highlighted the region’s vibrant cultural traditions associated with the month of Aati.
Dr. Bhushan Shetty, Associate Professor, Department of Nephrology, KMC Hospital, Attavar, was the chief guest for the event.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Shetty spoke about the significance of the month of Aati in Tulu Nadu. He also explained the cultural and scientific relevance associated with Aati Amavasya, Aati Kalanja and various customs traditionally observed during the month.
Staff showcase traditional cuisine
As part of the celebrations, an ‘Aati Food Competition’ was organised for the staff of KMC Hospital, Attavar. The initiative provided an opportunity for employees to showcase traditional culinary practices and celebrate the distinctive food culture associated with the Aati season.
The winners of the competition were felicitated during the formal ceremony, and prizes were distributed in recognition of their participation and culinary efforts.
Cultural performances add colour
The celebrations also featured a series of cultural performances presented by the hospital staff. The performances showcased the artistic traditions and cultural vibrancy of Tulu Nadu, adding colour and enthusiasm to the occasion.
Through the various activities, the hospital community came together to celebrate the traditional spirit of Aati and strengthen a sense of togetherness among its staff members.

The event was attended by Dr. Dilip G. Naik, Pro Vice-Chancellor, MAHE, Manipal, Mangaluru Campus; Dr. B. Unnikrishna, Dean, KMC Mangaluru; and Dr. Chakrapani M., Medical Superintendent, KMC Hospital, Attavar.
The ‘Aatida Sambhrama’ celebration provided the hospital community with an opportunity to appreciate, preserve and celebrate the rich cultural traditions and heritage of Tulu Nadu. The programme also reflected the importance of keeping regional customs alive while bringing people together through shared cultural experiences.
