Bantwal: A leopard was spotted on CCTV footage attempting to attack dogs at a residence in Babathota, Moodanadugodu village, Bantwal taluk. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on July 17 at the home of Prakash Poojary.

According to the footage, the leopard entered the premises and tried to pounce on the household dogs. However, the dogs barked loudly, which startled the animal and forced it to flee the scene. The family only became aware of the incident days later, on Sunday, after repairing a malfunctioning monitor connected to the CCTV system.

At the time, the loud barking had alarmed the family. Though Prakash attempted to investigate, his family members urged him not to step out, fearing danger. Initially, they suspected a human intruder and didn’t report the matter.

After reviewing the CCTV footage post-monitor repair, they discovered that one of their dogs had suffered a minor injury during the incident, which they had originally assumed was caused by a dogfight.

Prakash later notified the forest department, but officials reportedly suggested bursting crackers as a deterrent and took no further action.

Residents are now concerned about wildlife straying into residential areas and have urged the authorities to take proactive safety measures.
