Mangaluru: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U T Khader on Monday stressed the need for a fair and unbiased investigation into the alleged mass burial case in Dharmasthala, currently being probed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the state government.
Responding to media queries, Khader emphasized that the truth must emerge through proper legal channels, and that jumping to conclusions before the probe is complete would be irresponsible.
“The sanctity of a holy place should not be compromised. We must not pass judgement before the facts are established,” he said.
On Renaming Dakshina Kannada
When asked about the growing demand to rename Dakshina Kannada district as Mangaluru, Khader said the matter should be debated thoughtfully.
“A name reflects tradition and culture. Experts including historians and writers must be consulted,” he stated.
Highlighting the need for communal harmony, Khader added,
“What Mangaluru needs more than a name change is peace, mutual respect, and trust. Let’s build a society that is fearless and inclusive.”
Monsoon Session Announcement
Khader also confirmed that the Monsoon Session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Council will be held from August 11 to 22. The duration may be extended if needed, based on discussions among the Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition, and the Speaker.
