Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Police have arrested a 26-year-old man from Maharashtra in connection with a house burglary reported in Jeppimogaru under the jurisdiction of Kankanady Town police station. The arrest was made after a special police team traced the suspect near the Talapady bus stand on August 11.
According to a release issued by the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner, the burglary occurred on August 4 when the occupants of the house were away. Unidentified persons allegedly broke open the lock on the main door using a weapon or other instrument, entered the house and stole valuables kept inside a cupboard.
Gold and cash stolen from house
Police said the stolen property included a 14-gram gold chain, two rings weighing 2 grams each and ₹25,000 in cash.
Following the incident, a case was registered at Kankanady Town police station as Crime No. 106/2026 under Sections 305(a) and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The case prompted police to launch an investigation to identify those responsible for the break-in and trace the stolen valuables.
Special team formed for investigation
A special team was constituted to investigate the burglary. During the course of the investigation, police received credible information that a suspect was present near the bus stand at Talapady.
Acting on the information, the police team reached the location on August 11 and took the suspect into custody.
The accused was identified as Samadhan Sakhari Narale, 26, son of Sahakari Narale. He is a resident of Naralewadi village, Sanmadi Post, in Jath taluk of Sangli district, Maharashtra.
The arrest came within a week of the reported burglary, following the police team’s efforts to trace the suspect based on information gathered during the investigation.
Stolen valuables recovered
Police said the stolen property was recovered from the accused. Items allegedly used to commit the burglary were also recovered during the operation.
The recovery of the valuables and other articles is expected to form an important part of the investigation into the case. Police are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the burglary and the accused’s alleged involvement.
The recovery also helped investigators trace property reported stolen from the house during the August 4 incident.
Accused remanded to judicial custody
Following his arrest, Narale was produced before a court. The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody.
Police are continuing further investigation into the case to establish the complete circumstances of the burglary and determine whether any other individuals were involved.
The incident has also highlighted the importance of securing homes when residents are away, particularly by ensuring that doors and locks are properly secured and valuables are kept safely.
The Kankanady Town police are proceeding with the investigation based on the evidence and property recovered during the operation.
