Mangalore University’s academic council has mandated that only postgraduates in political science or law will be allowed to teach Constitution-related subjects in affiliated undergraduate colleges starting next academic year.

During an online meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. P.L. Dharma, former acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Jayaraj Amin highlighted that many colleges without political science faculty have been assigning Constitution courses to lecturers from unrelated disciplines, violating regulations. Currently, only six of 150 affiliated colleges have political science lecturers, prompting the university to enforce stricter teaching requirements. A formal notification will soon be issued.

Academic and Research Initiatives

The university has approved postdoctoral studies for foreign students, provided there is no financial burden on the institution. International students may pursue further studies at their own expense, subject to approval by the technical committee.

A proposal has been submitted to establish a Kannada study chair in Kundapur, with discussions on funding allocation underway.

NEP Students to Receive Ranks

Students who completed undergraduate programs under the National Education Policy (NEP) in 2021-22 were previously awarded grades without ranks. With the introduction of the Standard Education Policy (SEP), the university will now declare ranks for students who achieved an ‘A’ grade or higher.
