Mangaluru: In a step towards modernising its administrative processes, Mangalore University has rolled out two new software systems aimed at streamlining academic operations. The Computer Centre of the university has developed a dedicated platform to digitise the distribution of examination-related certificates, along with another software designed for efficient PhD tracking.

Digital shift in examination certificates

The newly launched certificate distribution software is expected to significantly reduce manual delays and administrative burdens. Students will now be able to access examination-related certificates in a digitised format, ensuring greater transparency, security, and ease of verification.

University officials said the software has been designed with a student-first approach, eliminating the need for repetitive paperwork and multiple in-person visits to administrative offices.

PhD tracking system introduced

Alongside this, Mangalore University has also introduced a PhD tracking software to assist research scholars, supervisors, and the administration in monitoring the progress of doctoral candidates.

The tool will digitise the otherwise complex process of tracking milestones in PhD programmes, including coursework, submission of progress reports, and thesis evaluation. Authorities believe this will improve accountability and ensure timely updates at each stage of research.

Boost to efficiency and governance

Speaking at the launch, university representatives noted that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance efficiency, transparency, and governance in higher education institutions. The digitisation push also aligns with the National Education Policy’s emphasis on leveraging technology in academic management.

Positive reception from stakeholders

Faculty members and students have welcomed the move, pointing out that it will not only save time but also bring uniformity in handling academic records. The PhD tracking system, in particular, is expected to assist supervisors in monitoring progress without administrative hurdles, thereby supporting quality research output.

Looking ahead

Mangalore University has been under financial and operational strain in recent years. The launch of these digital solutions is seen as a step towards modernising the university’s systems and creating a model for other state universities to follow.

The administration also indicated plans to expand digital services to cover more areas of student and academic life, reinforcing its commitment to efficient governance and technological adoption.
